The Clinton County SPCA is made up of staff members, board members, and volunteer workers who are committed to caring for the needs of lost, hurt, or unwanted animals and to educating present and future pet owners on the responsibility of owning a pet.

The shelter takes in stray or lost animals at no charge and accepts pet animals for a surrender fee. Once the animals are signed over to the shelter the staff takes on the responsibility of finding loving new homes or the owner of those animals that have been lost.

Unfortunately, not all of the animals find a home and may have to be euthanized.  The shelter takes in hundreds of animals each year, but pet owners are becoming more educated on the importance of spay and neutering so the number of unwanted animals being brought to the shelter is decreasing.

The Clinton County SPCA was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1950 by a group of animal lovers who raised money to pay veterinarians to treat and euthanize animals.

The original building was a boarding kennel with small runs that was purchased in 1970 by the SPCA.

There are 20 dog kennels, but depending on the size and compatibility of the animals up to 30 dogs can be held at one time.

The cat room consists of stainless steel cages and two cat colonies. Occasionally two cats will share a cage, but again that depends on the size and whether or not the animals are compatible.  Each of the colonies can hold up to six animals.  The cat room can hold up to 40 cats at one time.
