Love a Parade? Call us!
The Friends of the SPCA have been representing your organization in  parades. Perhaps you have seen us - we are a motley crew!    Often we draft family members and others to join us at the last minute so that a good number of pets can be seen by the public. At other times, we have had to walk our own pets so that we have enough  representation, it all depends on what pets are available at the shelter at the time.

Our parade equipment includes a new banner, generously donated by Ruth Eoute, a little red wagon full of candy which is often given by Scot’s Lo-Cost, and two ‘cat strollers’ that cats ride in. The dogs in  the parades usually wear some type of bandanna.

As each parade gets started, it does not take us long to be straggled all over the street. We think this is a good thing, because  it usually happens because kids want to ‘pet the doggie.’

Our thought is that parades work for the SPCA on many levels: They help keep the organization in the forefront of folks’ minds. They show that all sorts of dogs and cats are available at the shelter. They can help parents consider that, because their childen like to ‘pet the doggie,’ perhaps it is time to get them a pet of their own.
Parades, however, are just one of the many projects the Friends take on, so WE CAN USE YOUR HELP!

We would love to be able to construct a float, but we don’t know where we would get a flatbed or who would help us with that.  We also would love to have a core group of walkers we can call on. Walkers don’t necessarily have to handle animals  we can always use candy-throwers and banner-carriers. A church youth group or adult group would be ideal. Entire families are welcome.
